Gospel
Mt 8:18-22
Now when Jesus saw great crowds around him, he gave orders to go over to the other side. And a scribe came up and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head.” Another of the disciples said to him, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” But Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.”

Defeat Procrastination
Welcome back to Radical and Relevant. Today's reading is from the Gospel of Matthew chapter 8 verses 18 through 22. Now when Jesus saw great crowds around Him, He gave orders to go over to the other side. And a scribe came up to Him and said, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go." And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head." Another of the disciples said to him, "Lord, let me first go and bury my Father." But Jesus said to him, "Follow me and leave the dead to bury their own dead."
So this is one of those readings where Jesus appears to be harsh, appears to be even heartless. But in order to read it that way, you have to put a very literal reading on the scripture. And the reality is that that's not the way we read the scriptures. That's not the way the church interprets the scriptures. And so what is the essence of what Jesus was saying today? Perhaps one thing that we all struggle with is procrastination. Right? There's always going to be a reason to put things off.
If you're looking for a reason to put something off, you'll be able to find a reason from now until the end of the world to put things off. And Jesus was saying to make your priority, your priority, and to jump to action is not to delay. What is that thing that you're procrastinating about? And is today the day when you should just jump into it, get it done, and make it happen. Have an amazing day. Remember, Be Bold. Be Catholic.
