Gospel
Lk 13:31-35
At that very hour some Pharisees came, and said to him, “Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you.” And he said to them, “Go and tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I finish my course. Nevertheless I must go on my way today and tomorrow and the day following; for it cannot be that a prophet should perish away from Jerusalem.’ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, killing the prophets and stoning those who are sent to you! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not! Behold, your house is forsaken. And I tell you, you will not see me until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ”

Be Careful Where You Step
Welcome back. We have these few moments each day to reflect on the gospel, to connect to the Word of God, to connect with the genius of Jesus and the Gospels, to connect with the church, to connect with each other. Grateful to have this time with you each day. Today's reading is from the Gospel of Luke. I've been working through Gospel of Luke. We're at the end of chapter 13 of Luke. Today is going to be verses 31 through 35. It's right at the end of chapter 13 of Luke. And then tomorrow we're going to move over to Matthew. And you'll see the shift and you'll see the shifting themes. "At that very hour, some Pharisees came and said to Jesus, "Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you." And He said to them, "Go and tell that fox, behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I finish my course. Nevertheless, I must go on my way today and tomorrow and the day after. For it cannot be that a prophet should perish away from Jerusalem. Oh, Jerusalem, Jerusalem, killing the prophets and stoning those who are sent to you. How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings? And you would not. Behold, your house is forsaken.
And I tell you, you will not see me until you say, "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord." What jumps out at you today? I love what Jesus says. The Pharisees come, they're warning him about Herod, who wants to kill Jesus. And I don't know what that's about because half the time they're trying to kill Jesus. But anyway, Jesus says to them, "Go and tell that fox." That's awesome. I love that. He says, "Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today, tomorrow, and the third day." Saying, "I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing. You are not going to knock me off my path. I'm going to stay the course." What is the course that you need to stay on? What is the path that you need to stay focused on at this time in your life? And who or what is trying to knock you off that path? There's always someone or something leading us away, tempting us away, trying to knock us away, trying to get us off that path. If it was easy it'd be common. It's difficult. And all things difficult are equally rare, and that's why it's rare. It's rare, but God calls us to that rarity. Stay on the path. You go out in the world today. Think about that.
Think about when you're on the path, whenever you want it off the path. We do it right just for a few seconds. We just wander off the path for a few seconds, but let's be aware of it. Let's be mindful of it today. Each step along the way, let's be mindful of it today when we're on the path and when we're off the path. And if you think about it, right? Think about you're on a path, but right next to the path is a cliff. It's like 10,000 feet. It's just, you just fall down. If you were walking on that kind of path, you pay a lot of attention to not falling off the path. We would pay a lot of attention to not falling off the path. And walking with God is like that. Walking with God is like walking a path like that. Got to pay attention. Got to pay attention. Have a great day. Remember, Be Bold, Be Catholic.
