April 8 | Your Personal Healer

Saint Billiart

A.D. 1751–1816

Jesus is always healing people. Think about the Gospels. One thing we witness him doing over and over again is healing men, women, children.

Notice, I didn't say Jesus was always healing people, because that would have been a half-truth. Jesus is always healing people—present tense.

The Catechism says it beautifully: “Jesus has the power not only to heal, but also to forgive sins. He has come to heal the whole person, soul and body. He is the physician the sick need. His compassion toward all who suffer goes so far that He identifies Himself with them: ‘I was sick and you visited me.’” (CCC 1503)

Jesus is your personal healer. But he won’t intrude in your personal life unless you ask him. He is the perfect gentleman. All you have to do is ask him to heal you.

Saint Julie Billiart asked Jesus to heal her, and Jesus worked his wonders.

At age 16, Julie witnessed her father get shot while they were working in the family store. This traumatic experience led to a mysterious illness in which Julie became paralyzed, unable to walk.

But it was during this time of suffering that Julie became known as the “smiling saint,” as she spread joy to all who would come to see her and even taught catechism lessons from her bed.

After twenty-two years of this paralysis, she decided to pray a novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and ask for healing. Suddenly, in the midst of this novena, she could feel her legs. It was slow at first, but she tried sitting up. It worked. So she tried standing up, and she knew a miracle had taken place. She was healed.

“Ah! How good is the good God!" That became Saint Julie Billiart’s motto from that day on.

We all need healing. How do you need to be healed? What would happen if you brought that broken and difficult part of your life to Jesus? Do you believe that Jesus can heal you? Don’t worry about whether He will or not for now. Just focus on believing that he can.

HOW DO I NEED TO BE HEALED RIGHT NOW? WHAT COULD HAPPEN IF I BROUGHT THAT PART OF MY LIFE TO JESUS AND ASKED HIM TO HEAL ME?

I believe that Jesus can heal me.
