October 24 | Locate Your Heart

Saint Anthony Mary Claret

A.D. 1807–1870

We’re always told to follow our hearts. Where is your heart leading you?

Anthony Mary Claret allowed his heart to lead him toward God in all things. Anthony was a Spanish priest who touched many lives—he was a dedicated preacher, missionary, and even became the personal confessor of Queen Isabella of Spain. On many occasions, Anthony received visions from God that warned him about the evils of war and communism that would overtake the world in the next century. But whether he was having a special vision or simply helping a sick child, Anthony did everything with his heart set on God. And years after his death, officials discovered something amazing: Anthony’s heart was completely incorrupt.

What is the state of your heart? If you want to know where your heart is at, take a look at your desires.

Let’s explore some places in the Bible that talk about the heart, but replace the word “heart” with desire and see what you learn about yourself.

Proverbs 3:5: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart.”

Try reading it like this: “Trust in the Lord with all your desire.”

Do your desires reveal that you trust God?

Proverbs 4:23, "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

Try reading it like this: “Above all else, guard your desire, for everything you do flows from it."

Are good things flowing from your desires?

Psalm 51:10, "Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

Try reading it like this:  “Create in me a pure desire, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

It is impossible to have a steadfast spirit unless we have control of our desires. Are you able to direct your desires?

Psalm 26:2, "Lord, examine my heart.”

Try reading it like this: “Lord, examine my desires.”

What would God find if He examined your desires?

Matthew 6:21, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Try reading it like this, “For where your treasure is, there your desire will be also.”

Where is your desire? Follow your desire and you will locate your heart. If it has wandered off course, return it to the straight and narrow path of joy—and loving God above all things.

WHAT IS YOUR HEART FOCUSED ON? WHERE ARE YOUR DESIRES LEADING YOU?

I will give my heart to God!
