November 1 | Now Is Your Time
Happy Feast of All Saints!
This day is designed to remind us that most saints are not canonized; nobody will ever know they were saints. It is also designed to remind us that we are all called to be saints, in our own way, and in our own place and time. Finally, this is a day of inspiration.
People don't do anything until they are inspired, but once they are inspired there is almost nothing they can't do. Too often we forget this. Christianity is by its very nature hopeful and positive, and yet it's amazing how negative we can be as Christians at times.
The saints have been providing massive inspiration to people of all ages for two millennia. They were inspiring people; they lived inspiring lives. And their stories remain inspiring today. Perhaps it is because they demonstrate what is possible.
Now it is your turn. Wherever you have been, whatever you have done, God is inviting you right now to a very new and special period in your life. Will you open yourself up to it?
Set aside your pain and your shame, set aside any negative feelings you have about yourself, set aside any self-limiting ideas that you or others have filled your mind with, and allow God to do what he does best: bring the best out of people.
Where do you start? With Holy Moments.
A Holy Moment is a single moment in which you open yourself up to God. You make yourself available to him. You set aside personal preference and self interest. And for one moment, you do what you prayerfully believe God is calling you to do.
Just start creating Holy Moments. One today. Two tomorrow. Six next Thursday. The world needs changing—everybody knows that. But we need to stop looking for worldly solutions to our spiritual problems. Holy Moments are the answer.
What does the world need? What does our nation need? What does the Church need? What do your marriage and family need? What do your children need? What do your friends and colleagues at work need? Holy Moments.
Holy Moments are just what is needed. And if we don't create them now, then who and when? How much longer can we kick the spiritually rusted, morally bankrupt can down the road?
In every place and time God raises up people to create Holy Moments. In your place and time, God wants to raise you up.
The question is, are you ready to collaborate with him, or are you comfortable letting life continue to pass you by?
WHAT HOLY MOMENT IS GOD CALLING YOU TO CREATE TODAY?
I am called to be a saint, one Holy Moment at a time.
This reflection is brought to you from book title.
