November 10 | All Things Are Possible
A.D. 400–461
Are you a person of possibility? Our world is full of skeptics and cynics. Our age is defined by a spirit of criticism and impossibility.
But as Christians we are called to something higher. Because with God, anything is possible.
Leo the Great was a pope who is still remembered today for the many things he did for the Church. Because he invited God into his life, he was able to stand against heretics, political powers, and even Attila the Hun! Attila was a vicious warrior who had threatened to take over Rome. But Leo went out to the city gates and spoke to him. No one is exactly sure what happened, but Attila was convinced to leave the city quietly in peace.
Sometimes God asks us to do things or face things that seem impossible, but when we invite him into our lives, amazing things become possible.
God wants us to be people of possibility.
Most people, when they get into a situation where they have to make a choice or a decision, don't see even a fraction of the possibilities before them. We tend to get focused on one or two things when, in reality, there might be a thousand possibilities.
Maybe you're thinking about getting a new car. Most people focus on a specific car or a couple of different types, and then suddenly, they see that car everywhere. The car was always there, but you didn’t notice it before because you weren't focused on it. Most of the time, we don't see all the possibilities that are actually before us.
We all love having one type of person on our team—people of possibility. They're the kind of person you can ask, "Can we do this?" and they'll say, "Yeah, no problem. I'll take care of it." But we've also worked with people who are people of impossibility. You ask them the same question, and they'll say, "Oh no, that won't work." When you ask why, they say, "I have a hunch."
As Christians, we're called to be the ultimate people of possibility. God wants to fill you with great hope so he can send you out into the world with that hope. God wants to fill you with great hope so he can send you out into the world as a person of possibility.
Will you say yes to that call?
