Are you letting your past rob you of your future?
It is so easy to believe we are defined by the worst thing that has ever happened to us. Or that we are defined by the worst thing that we have ever done. But God is never more than one choice away. It only takes one Holy Moment to shift the momentum of your life in the right direction.
Jesus said two simple words to a tax collector named Matthew. “Follow me.” In that moment, Matthew had a choice. He could ignore the man, carry on with his day, and continue to walk down the familiar path of corruption and greed that lay before him. Or he could stand up, leave the tax collections table, and follow Jesus. He chose to follow Jesus, and that Holy Moment shifted the momentum of his life in the right direction.
Now history remembers Matthew not as the dishonest tax collector that he once was, but as a great Apostle, Gospel writer, and saint.
Don’t let your past rob you of your future. You are more than the worst thing that has ever happened to you. You are more than the worst thing you have ever done. God really is never more than one choice away.
Just like Matthew, you have the power to create Holy Moments. And it only takes one good choice to turn your whole life around.
The rest of your life is waiting for you. It will be filled with moments. They can be moments when you follow Jesus or when you turn away from him. They can be Holy Moments or they can be unholy moments.
