Welcome back to Best Advent Ever. I still remember the very moment when we dreamed up Best Lent Ever and Best Advent Ever. Over 10 years ago, Dynamic Catholic was still in its infancy. Sitting around a conference room table in our old office. And it was a magical moment. And each year, as I prepare to speak to you, Best Lent Ever, Best Advent Ever, I try to go back to that moment and spend some time in that moment when we dreamed up this idea of visiting with you each day. Making a journey through slowing down the speed of joy. And what I would say to you is that slowing down the speed of joy isn't a book. I think it's a mistake to think of it as a book. The book is a delivery mechanism for the message, just as this video series is a delivery mechanism for the message. But the idea is much bigger than a book. And the idea of slowing down the speed of joy, allowing our hearts, our minds, and our souls to really slow down to God's speed, the speed that God wants us to live our lives, it's a beautiful idea. It's a beautiful challenge. It's a beautiful opportunity. Today we're talking about busy. You probably have a busy day ahead of you. We all experience busyness in our lives. I think what's important for us to understand is that busy is a choice. And you may not be able to change what's on your schedule today. And your schedule may be too busy today. It may be busier than God wants you to be. And that's okay. What's important is for us to realize, is that over time, once we realize that busy is a choice and that busy can be a tyrant, to realize we do have the power to make new choices in our lives. Busy is a choice. Let's reflect on it a little bit more. Busy is a choice. Hurry is a choice. Don't make the mistake of thinking you have no choice. Don't surrender your power like that. Anytime you want to, you can abolish urgent, busy, and hurry from your life. It may take some time to fully establish the speed of joy, but you can get started today. We may convince ourselves that our busy is necessary and unavoidable. That isn't true. At least not entirely. We are much busier than we need to be. We're much busier than we need to be. Yes, we have important things to do, but we also do a lot of things that aren't that important. We also do things that we know for certain God doesn't want us to do. And those things definitely cramp up our day. Those things definitely make us busier than we need to be. And I think it's important that we really reflect, and even more than reflect, meditate on the effects of busy, on our hearts, on our minds, on our souls, on our relationships, on our decision-making. Because busy can cause us to make some really poor decisions. So what is the impact of busy What are the effects of busy? Busy prevents us from enjoying the things we are doing. The more we try to cram into our days, the faster we tend to move through life. This is the relationship between busy and the speed of our lives. Busyness is the impetus for the speed of our lives, and therefore, the cause of our lost joy. The faster you go, the less you see. The faster you go, the less you see. It's common sense, right? It's just the most basic fundamental physics. And yet, we skip over it all the time. The faster you go, the less you see. Go fast enough, and everything becomes a blur. Does your life ever feel like one big blur? The faster you go, the more likely you are to crash. People's lives are crashing. Relationships are crumbling. Careers are collapsing. Personal finances are unraveling. And everywhere we turn, we hear about physical and mental health breakdowns. What aspect of your life is most likely to crash if you increase the speed of your life? I've lived life like that. I've lived life like it's just a whole one big blur. I don't want to live like that anymore. What aspect of your life is most likely to crash, is most in danger of crashing right now? It's time to back off the speed, especially in that aspect of your life, especially, in that aspect of your life. I hope you're enjoying the book. If you haven't picked up a copy yet, pick up a copy.
