Hi, I'm Matthew Kelly and welcome back to Best Advent Ever. One of the things I've realized as a parent is that Meg and I are at war with the culture for the souls of our children. It's not, "Oh, we can get along and go along and this sort of thing." The culture really wants to destroy our children. The culture does not have a good vision for our children. And so Meg and I, we have to fight every day for the souls of our children. I see other parents who haven't come to this realization yet, and they're just sort of lost in this battle with the culture, but they don't even realize they're in a battle. I heard Peter Kreeft speak once, and he was speaking about war. He was speaking about culture wars. He was speaking about these types of things. And he just had this brilliant clarity that I included in the book, and that I want to share with you today. "To win any war," he wrote, "the three most necessary things to know are one, that you are at war. Two, who your enemy is, and three, what weapons or strategies can defeat that enemy." You cannot win a war if, one, you simply sow peace banners on the battlefield. Two, you fight civil wars against your allies. Or three, you use the wrong weapons and strategies. You are at war.
What are you at war with? You're at war with busy. You are at war with busy. This is the brutal truth. No matter how unpalatable we may find it, this truth will not change. Busy is your enemy. Busy is my enemy. We're at war with busy. And the worst thing we can do is pretend we're not at war. The worst thing we can do is not recognize, okay, we're in a battle here. We're in a battle against busy. That's just the reality of our culture. Is busy a new problem? No, it's not a new problem. Is it getting worse and worse with the speed of change in our culture and the introduction of new technologies every day to our culture? Yes, it's getting worse. And so, we need to learn how to win the war against busy. And the number one strategy—the number one strategy winning the war against busy is slowing down to the speed of joy. I hope you're enjoying our journey. I hope you are reaping the benefits of slowing down to the speed of joy. And I want to encourage you to share them with your parish this Christmas. For the first time ever, Dynamic Catholic is making the same book that we use for Best Advent Ever, Slowing Down to the Speed of Joy, available to every parish for $2 a copy to pass out at Christmas this year. 33% of people who show up to church on Christmas Day, it is the only time they will show up to church this year. What is our strategy to win them back? Very often, we don't have a strategy. They come for Christmas. They go away. They come back again for Christmas. We don't see them in between. We need a strategy to win them back.
One strategy that, for almost 20 years, has been incredibly successful at winning people back to their faith, inviting people back to participate in their parish, and increasing the engagement of the already engaged has been Dynamic Catholics Book Program. Millions of people have been impacted by the power of receiving a book on the way out of church. It's so simple in a sense, and yet, it works. Why? Because books change lives. Why? Because we become the books we read. So this Christmas, give everyone in your parish a copy of Slowing Down to the Speed of Joy. It's an incredible gift to give to people. Have a great day and remember, Be Bold, Be Catholic.
Thank you, Ambassadors. You are changing the world. See you tomorrow.
