Jn 3:22-30
After this Jesus and his disciples went into the land of Judea; there he remained with them and baptized. John also was baptizing at Ae′non near Salim, because there was much water there; and people came and were baptized. For John had not yet been put in prison.
Now a discussion arose between John’s disciples and a Jew over purifying. And they came to John, and said to him, “Rabbi, he who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you bore witness, here he is, baptizing, and all are going to him.” John answered, “No one can receive anything except what is given him from heaven. You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but I have been sent before him. He who has the bride is the bridegroom; the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom’s voice; therefore this joy of mine is now full. He must increase, but I must decrease.”

Find Clarity of Mission
Is there a word or a phrase or an idea that jumps out at you today? It's a fabulous reading. There's just so much here. Obviously, the last phrase or sentence, "He must increase, and I must decrease," is a great one. I think the idea, the image of rejoicing greatly, the best man rejoicing greatly for his friend. But what jumps out at me today is this idea that John the Baptist had clarity of purpose. He had clarity of mission. He wasn't confused about who he was or what he was here for. And that is a phenomenal gift. It's an extraordinary gift to have this clarity about who you are and what you're here for and what your mission is. I think it's something we should pray and ask God to give us more clarity around every single day of our lives. And I look at John, and I think, "Wow, that's amazing." Because he had this extraordinary clarity. Let's go out into the world of chaos and confusion today. Let's take the clarity that God has already given us out into the world of chaos and confusion, and let's ask Him to give us more and more clarity with each passing day. Have a great day, and remember, Be Bold, Be Catholic.
