Gospel
Jn 12:24-26
Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If any one serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there shall my servant be also; if any one serves me, the Father will honor him.

Who Are You Serving?
Welcome back to Radical and Relevant. We're exploring the genius of the gospel, which is as radical today as it was 2,000 years ago, and as relevant to your life and my life as it ever was to anyone's life. Today's reading is from the Gospel of John, chapter 12, verses 24 to 26. It's a short reading. So focus in. Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone. But if it dies, it bears much fruit. He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves me, he must follow me. And where I am, there shall be my servant also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor Him.
What jumps out at you today? I think any time Jesus uses a word more than once, it tends to capture my attention. And here he's talking about serving Him, which is not that common in the Gospels. Yeah. He talks a lot about serving people. He talks a lot about service to the kingdom. He talks about service. But here he's directly saying, "If anyone serves me, the Father will honor Him." And so the question for us today is, how are we serving Jesus? How are we serving Jesus? What are you going to do today that serves Jesus?
And where is Jesus? He's everywhere. And not in a neo psychological way. He's everywhere from the point of view of He has said that whatever we do for the least, we do for Him, so He exists everywhere in the least among us. And everyone's the least among us in some respect. And so to be able to walk into a room and say, "Okay. Who is in most pain in this room? Who is in most need in this room?" That's where we find Jesus is in that room. That's how we serve Jesus during the time that we are in that room. Have a great day. Get out there, find Jesus, serve Jesus.
And remember, Be Bold, Be Catholic.
