Lk 9:51-56
When the days drew near for him to be received up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. And he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him; but the people would not receive him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem. And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, “Lord, do you want us to bid fire come down from heaven and consume them?” But he turned and rebuked them. And they went on to another village.

Get Clear on Your Mission
I'm smiling because, "Lord, do you want us to bid fire come down from heaven and consume them?" I just find that there's so many situations in life where we probably would like to bid fire to come down from heaven and consume some people. But of course, Jesus rebukes them for that. I find it interesting that Jesus made the Samaritan in the story, basically the patron saint of holy moments. And then here we have a Samaritan village just rejecting Jesus en masse. But why? And it's because he had his face set toward Jerusalem. Depending on the translation you're reading and depending on which Gospel you're reading this in, different translations talk about Jesus setting out determinantly in the direction of Jerusalem.
And he was determined to fulfill his mission. And he was on a mission. Just that he set his face to go to Jerusalem. It's repeated twice in the reading. What does it show? It shows intentionality. It shows mission. It shows intentionality, and it shows intentional mission. And so as we go into the world today, let's go out there. Let's realize, "Okay, we're on mission." Do we know what our mission is? If we don't, let's ask for direction. And then let's live with great intention. Let's ask God to teach us how to live more intentionally, with more focus, with more intention, so that our mission that he has sent us on can be as fruitful as possible. Have a great day, and remember, don't just be yourself, be the-very-best-version-of-yourself, all that God created you to be.
