The Truth about God’s Will

Gospel

Lk 10:17-24

The seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!” And he said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall hurt you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you; but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes; yea, Father, for such was thy gracious will. All things have been delivered to me by my Father; and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and any one to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”

Then turning to the disciples he said privately, “Blessed are the eyes which see what you see! For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.”

It’s time to take back your life.

It’s time to slow down to the speed of joy.

All revolutions have a moment when they begin. This is your moment.

The Truth about God’s Will

So what jumps out at you today? What did the Holy Spirit draw your attention to? The 70 returned with joy. Love that word. Maybe that's the word that jumps out at you. They were pretty happy with themselves, and Jesus, He settled them down pretty quick. Then Jesus just has this beautiful prayer. He's praying to the Father, and he's praising the Father for revealing things not to the wise, the learned, the understanding, but to the young, to the innocent, to the children. And then He says, "For such was your gracious will." I always love that phrase, the will of God. People talk about the will of God. Right? Sometimes we hear people talk about the will of God as if it's like an inconvenience, or you'll hear people talk about the will of God as if it's like a burden, or you'll hear people talk about the will of God in all these sorts of ways. But how does Jesus talk about the will of God? "For such was your gracious will." And so for us to learn to see the will of God as being gracious, I think it's a beautiful thing, and I could just reflect on that all day. And that's what we're looking for in these encounters with the gospel each day. We're just looking for a word, a phrase, or an idea that we can just chew on, that we can just ponder the whole day. For me, that's the one today. "For such was your gracious will." The will of the Father is gracious. Have a great day and remember, Be Bold, Be Catholic.
