In these days he went out into the hills to pray; and all night he continued in prayer to God. And when it was day, he called his disciples, and chose from them twelve, whom he named apostles; Simon, whom he named Peter, and Andrew his brother, and James and John, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon who was called the Zealot, and Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

Are You a Traitor?
So what is it that jumps out at you today? What do we got? We got the apostles. We got the 12 being called. How is God calling you at this time in your life? We've got the 12 being named. You were named. You were named at birth. You were named at baptism. What does your name mean to you? What does your name mean to God? What is your name calling you to at this time in your life? And then you've got these, different things. Is there like one of the disciples, is there one of the 12 that you're more attracted to, that you think about more? Is there one that you think, "Oh yeah, if I was around that, I would have been friends with him." And why? What is it about that one that is interesting to you or attractive to you? And then, of course, we got-- right at the end, we got, "And Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot who became a traitor." And so we need to consider in what ways are we a traitor? In what ways are we a traitor to God? In what ways are we a traitor to ourselves? Are we a traitor to our friends and family? In what way are we a traitor to the things we believe are important? And how does this traitorism manifest in it? Probably in a thousand different ways, but we probably never think of ourselves as a traitor. We never introduce, "Hi, I'm Matthew, I'm a traitor." That's probably not how we see ourselves, and it's probably not the biggest definition of who we are and what matters most about us and all that sort of thing. Obviously, in Judas' case, it was like big, very significant.
But as we've talked about, I think it's important that we see each key person in the Scriptures and ask ourselves, "Okay. How do I behave like that person? And how am I being called, challenged, encouraged to become all God created me to be, to become the best version of myself by learning about that person, the mistakes they made, how they responded to their mistakes? They're turning toward God. They're turning away from God. What is the lesson there for me?" Maybe something completely jumped out at you. Maybe something completely different jumped out at you today, and that's okay. Take that with you into your day. Have a great day. And remember, Be Bold, Be Catholic.
