Lk 19:41-44
And when he drew near and saw the city he wept over it, saying, “Would that even today you knew the things that make for peace! But now they are hid from your eyes. For the days shall come upon you, when your enemies will cast up a bank about you and surround you, and hem you in on every side, and dash you to the ground, you and your children within you, and they will not leave one stone upon another in you; because you did not know the time of your visitation.”

Do You Recognize the Messiah?
So Jesus is prophesying, right? He's looking at Jerusalem. Is he talking to the city? Is he talking to the people? Is he talking to both? But it's not a very pleasant prophecy, right? It's not a very pleasant prophecy. And all because you did not know the time of your visitation. They didn't recognize the Messiah when he came.
I often think about the scribes and the Pharisees, right? I think about Judaism. I think about Jesus as a Jewish man and the Scribes in the Pharisees studying the Scriptures all the time, trying to work out when the Messiah was going to come, but they missed him. That's what today's about. Did not recognize the time of your visitation. So they're like, "One thing is work out, okay, who's going to be the Messiah? Let's make sure we recognize him when he shows up." But they didn't recognize him because he didn't fit the mold that they had in their heads of who and what and where a Messiah should be and do and say. Just didn't fit that mold at all. They're like, "Not a chance. Ain't going to be him." And then they start to attack him. Rather than thinking, "Hmm, maybe it is him. Maybe we got this wrong." They weren't capable of that. Their pride, ego is so strong. The ego is an enemy of God. The ego is a major obstacle between me and God, you and God. The ego is like, "Hmm." So the Scribes, the Pharisees, they had this ego. They studied the scriptures. They're like, "No. This isn't the Messiah." They missed him. They missed him. We can miss him too.
We can miss him in little ways every day. We can miss him in big moments of our lives. The result of not recognizing Jesus when he shows up in our lives is destruction. Destruction of that situation, maybe that circumstance, that relationship. I don't know. But that's what we're reading about today.
So let's go out into the world and let's recognize Jesus' visitation today. Let's recognize when Jesus shows up in a special way in our lives today. Have a great day, and remember, Be Bold, Be Catholic.
