Gospel

Lk 1:26-38

In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said, “Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!” But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and considered in her mind what sort of greeting this might be. 30 And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.

He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High;
and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David,
and he will reign over the house of Jacob for ever;
and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

And Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I have no husband?” And the angel said to her,

“The Holy Spirit will come upon you,
and the power of the Most High will overshadow you;
therefore the child to be born will be called holy,
the Son of God.

And behold, your kinswoman Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son; and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible.” And Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

It’s time to take back your life.

It’s time to slow down to the speed of joy.

All revolutions have a moment when they begin. This is your moment.

Nothing is Impossible

So each day we listen to the gospel, we're listening for a word or a phrase or an idea that the Holy Spirit draws our attention to. There's so much in this reading. There's so many rich and powerful messages. The angel tells Mary you've found favor with God. Imagine, right? Imagine finding favor with God. But is it even on our radar? Do we even try? Is that a concern of ours? We think often about, "Oh, what will this person think? Or what will that person think if we do this or we say that?" But do we think, what would God think? What would Jesus think if we do this, or will we say that? That's one of the messages, just one of the messages in this beautiful reading. Nothing is impossible for God. What in your life feels impossible at the moment? What in your life feels impossible at the moment? And then Mary surrender. I am the handmaid of the Lord. Be it done unto me according to your word. In what way are you being called to surrender? Or what aspect of your life is God encouraging you or challenging you to surrender in this season of your life? What word jumped out at you? Holy Spirit will come upon you. When's the last time we invited the Holy Spirit? When was the last time we consulted the Holy Spirit. We go to different people, we ask them for advice. What do you think we should do? I think you should do it. What do you think we should do? I think you should do this. When's the last time he sat down and got really still and really quiet and asked the Holy Spirit what he thinks you should do? So much here. But all you need is one word, one phrase, one idea to take out into the world today. Have a great day and remember, Be Bold, Be Catholic.
