Jn 20: 1a, 2-8

Now on the first day of the week Mary Mag′dalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.

So she ran, and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” Peter then came out with the other disciple, and they went toward the tomb. They both ran, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first; and stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; he saw the linen cloths lying, and the napkin, which had been on his head, not lying with the linen cloths but rolled up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed.

It’s time to take back your life.

It’s time to slow down to the speed of joy.

All revolutions have a moment when they begin. This is your moment.

Rediscover Reverence

What is it that jumps out at you today? There's some really interesting language, this back and forth between—so you got Peter and you got John. They run to the tomb. John gets there first, but he doesn't go in. Peter comes. Peter goes in. And they make a big deal of the fact that John gets there first. They make a big deal of the fact that he didn't go in. They make a big deal of the fact that then Peter came, and then Peter went in. And then, again, they say that John, who got there first, then went in. So what is being said here? Essentially, what is being acknowledged is the primacy of Peter. What is being acknowledged is that Peter was considered the leader from the very beginning, that the disciples had witnessed Jesus giving Peter that role, and that they were honoring him in that role from the very beginning. And so John, he gets to the tomb. And it's a respect. Right? It's a respect for the leader. He probably got to the tomb because he's probably a lot younger. And then Peter comes, and John waits.

And so it's a simple thing. Right? It's a little thing, but it's a show of reverence. And so, as we go about our day-to-day, let's look for ways to show reverence to God, little ways, big ways, but this idea of reverence, because we live in such an irreverent culture toward everything, not just God and religion, but irreverent toward everything. And so let's think about how can we bring reverence into our lives, and by bringing reverence into our lives, bring it into our relationships, and bring it into our world. Have a great day, and remember, don't just be yourself. Be the-very-best-version-of-yourself, all that God created you to be.
