Mk 12: 18-27
And Sad´ducees came to him, who say that there is no resurrection; and they asked him a question, saying, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife, but leaves no child, the man must take the wife, and raise up children for his brother. There were seven brothers; the first took a wife, and when he died left no children; and the second took her, and died, leaving no children; and the third likewise; and the seven left no children. Last of all the woman also died. In the resurrection whose wife will she be? For the seven had her as wife.” Jesus said to them, “Is not this why you are wrong, that you know neither the scriptures nor the power of God? For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. And as for the dead being raised, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God said to him, ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not God of the dead, but of the living; you are quite wrong.”

Invoke the Power of God
Hi, I'm Matthew Kelly, and
welcome back to Radical and Relevant, where we are exploring the genius of the gospel
and how to apply it to our lives each day.
Today's reading comes
from Mark 12:18-27. And Sadducees came to him who say that there is no resurrection. And
they asked him a question saying, "Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother
dies and leaves a wife, but leaves no child, the man must take the wife and raise up
children for his brother. There were seven brothers. The first took a wife, and when he
died, left no children, and the second took her and died, leaving no children, and the
third likewise, and the seven left no children. Last of all, the woman also died. In the
resurrection, whose wife will she be for the seven had her as wife?" And Jesus said to
them, "Is not this why you are wrong that you know neither the scriptures nor the power
of God? For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage,
but are like angels in heaven. And as for the dead being raised, have you not read the
book of Moses in the passage about the bush? How God said to him, 'I am the God of
Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' He is not God of the dead, but of
the living. And you are quite wrong."
Again, it's a great reading. So
the setup of the reading, you might have not catched it at first. The Sadducees came to
him who say there is no resurrection, and they asked him a question. Of course, the
question is about the resurrection. So they don't believe in the resurrection, but now
they're asking questions about the resurrection, which obviously is a setup. But the
three words that jump out at me is Jesus when he rebukes them, when he corrects them, he
says, "Is not this why you are wrong that you know neither the scriptures nor the power
of God?" And so let not that be said of us, hey, that we know not the Scriptures nor the
power of God. And I think we don't talk about the power of God enough. I think we don't
think about the power of God enough. I think we don't invoke the power of God enough.
And so as you go out into the world today, I want you to think about the power of God. I
want you to invoke the power of God into specific situations. I want you to invoke the
power of God for specific people in specific situations, yourself and others.
Have an amazing day. And remember, don't just be yourself. Be the
very best version of yourself, all that God created you to be.
