Lk 19:41-44
And when he drew near and saw the city he wept over it, saying, “Would that even today you knew the things that make for peace! But now they are hid from your eyes. For the days shall come upon you, when your enemies will cast up a bank about you and surround you, and hem you in on every side, and dash you to the ground, you and your children within you, and they will not leave one stone upon another in you; because you did not know the time of your visitation.”

Hidden From Your Eyes
Welcome back to Radical
and Relevant. Today's reading is from the Gospel of Luke chapter 19, verses 41 through
44. And when Jesus drew near and saw the city, he wept over it, saying, "Would that even
today you knew the things that make for peace, but now they are hidden from your eyes.
For the day shall come upon you when your enemies will cast up a bank about you and
surround you and hem you in on every side and dash you to the ground, you and your
children within you. And they will not leave one stone upon another in you because you
did not know the time of your visitation." What jumps out at you today? Remember each
day we're looking just for a word or a phrase or an idea. We don't necessarily need to
understand the whole thing or the theological implications of it all. But just where
you're at. God wants to meet you where you're at and lead you to where he is calling you
to be. And so his word wants to meet you where you're at and lead you where he's calling
you to be and not all at once, a little bit each day. And so that's why each day we're
looking for a word or a phrase or an idea just to anchor our day in the gospel. The word
that jumped out at me today was hidden.
And Jesus said, "But now they
are hidden from your eyes. Would that you, even today, knew the things that make for
peace, but now they are hidden from your eyes?" And so, the question that emerges for me
is, what is hidden from our eyes right now? And what is stopping us from seeing it? Is
it one of the seven deadly sins? Is it just ego? Is it just ambition? Is it just
distraction? Is it just the busyness of life? What is stopping us from seeing what is
before us right now and what God wants to reveal to us today? And so as we go about our
day, looking beyond the little circumstances and situations of our lives, and asking God
to reveal to us the big picture, the big picture, so that we can live in the long view
and we can live from the big picture. Have a great day, and remember, Be Bold, Be
Catholic.
