Go to God, Not Google

Welcome back to Radical and Relevant, where each day we listen to the gospel for a few moments and allow the Holy Spirit to guide us toward a word, a phrase, or an idea that we can take out into our day with us to live the gospel. Today's reading is from John chapter 13, verses 16 through 20. Jesus said, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the servant is not greater than his master, nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. I am not speaking of you all. I know whom I have chosen. It is that the Scripture may be fulfilled.

He who ate my bread was lifted his heel against me. I tell you this now before it takes place, that when it does take place, you may believe that I am he. Truly, truly I say to you, "He who receives anyone whom I send receives me, and he who receives me receives him who sent me." So Jesus is talking about masters and servants and who's greater and who isn't. And of course, in the middle of the reading alludes to his betrayal. He says, "I know who I've chosen, and I have chosen so that the Scripture could be fulfilled.

And I'm telling you this so that when it happens, you know that he says, "I am he." But what is it that jumps out at you today? The phrase that jumps out at me is this. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. We live in a culture that is multiplying information at a speed that is dizzying. We live in a culture that is hungry for knowledge. And we live in a culture that ignores wisdom. Take another look at what Jesus said. He says, "If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them." It's not enough just to know things. Wisdom is to do them.

Wisdom is to live the truth. So the question I ask you today is, what truth is it that you're aware of that you're refusing to live? What truth is it that you're aware of that you're not living? And how hungry are you for truth? How hungry are you for wisdom? Because in this culture of information, saturation, just so much information and so much knowledge. But knowledge is not wisdom, and Google has no wisdom. Google has plenty of information, but Google has no wisdom. And if we want wisdom, we have to go to the ultimate source of wisdom, which is Jesus, which is the gospels. And that's why we take these moments each day to allow his wisdom to wash over us in the hope that we can live it a little bit more and become it a little bit more. Blessed are you if you do them?
