Lk 9:28b-36
Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. And as he was praying, the appearance of his countenance was altered, and his raiment became dazzling white. And behold, two men talked with him, Moses and Eli′jah, who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which he was to accomplish at Jerusalem. Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep but kept awake, and they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is well that we are here; let us make three booths, one for you and one for Moses and one for Eli′jah”—not knowing what he said. As he said this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!” And when the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silence and told no one in those days anything of what they had seen.

You’re in the Right Place
Welcome back to Radical
and Relevant, where each day we explore the genius of the Gospels together. Remember,
we're listening for a word, a phrase, or an idea Holy Spirit uses to capture our
attention today that we can carry into our day with us.
"Jesus took
with him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray. And as he was
praying, the appearance of his countenance was altered, and his clothes became dazzling
white. And behold, two men talked with him, Moses and Elijah, who appeared in glory and
spoke of his departure, which he was to accomplish at Jerusalem. Now Peter and those who
were with him were heavy with sleep but kept awake and they saw his glory and the two
men who stood with him. And as the men were parting, Peter said to Jesus, 'Master, it is
well that we are here. Let us make three booths. One for you, one for Moses, one for
Elijah,' not knowing what he said. As he said this, a cloud came and overshadowed them,
and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. And a voice came out of the cloud
saying, 'This is my son, my chosen. Listen to him.' And when the voice had spoken, Jesus
was found alone. And they kept silence and told no one in those days anything of what
they had seen."
What is it that jumps out at you today? Is there a
phrase? Is there an idea? For me, it was this phrase. Peter comes to Jesus and he says
to him, "Master, it is well that we are here. It's good that we are here with you." And
I think that applies so often in our lives. And when we're present to the moment, we
have this realization of gratitude, right? And it might be you're with your grandmother.
It might be you with your grandchild. It might be you with your children or your spouse
or your friends or your colleagues at work. It could be really anywhere with anyone. But
you get this gratitude begins to swell up in you and you get this sense, "It is good
that we are here." And it's a sense that we're in the right place. It's a sense that
we're in the right place at the right time. It's a sense that we're in the right place
doing the right thing. It's a beautiful phrase. It's good that we are here. It's good
that we are here with you. And of course, you come to church, that's always true. It's
good that we are here with you, Jesus. It's good that we are here with you, God. But in
order to experience that, and we do have to slow down the speed of joy, we do have to
get into the present moment and become aware of how incredible the present moment is,
even when it's just the ordinary moments of everyday life. Have a great day and
remember, Be Bold, Be Catholic.
