Mk 6:7-13
And he called to him the twelve, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. He charged them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts; but to wear sandals and not put on two tunics. And he said to them, “Where you enter a house, stay there until you leave the place. And if any place will not receive you and they refuse to hear you, when you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet for a testimony against them.” So they went out and preached that men should repent. And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many that were sick and healed them.

Don’t Take Anything With You
So each day we're looking
for a word or a phrase or an idea to attach to, to explore, to allow the gospel to sink
its roots into our lives. And what jumps out at me today is Jesus' direction to them,
"Don't take anything with you." No bread, no bag, no money, not even two
tunics.
And the lesson there is a lesson of providence is Jesus is
promising them that they will be provided for, and they are trusting in God and in God's
providence. And we look at that today and we think, "Well, that's impossible, no this,
no that, no other thing." One of the reasons is because all the stuff we've got has
multiplied massively since the 12 disciples were walking the earth. What they needed to
get through a day was relatively simple. What we think we need has multiplied infinitely
since then. And so the gospel is always a call to trusting God's providence, and it is
always a call to simplicity. And there is pure genius in that
simplicity.
And so how is God inviting you to trust in Him more
today? And how is God inviting you to simplify your life more today? God bless you. Have
a great day, and remember, don't just be yourself. Be the-very-best-version-of-yourself,
or that God created you to be.
