Do You Know the Father?

4 min

Gospel

Mt 11:25-30

At that time Jesus declared, “I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes; yea, Father, for such was thy gracious will. All things have been delivered to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and any one to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Do You Know the Father?

Is there a word or a phrase or an idea that out at you today? For me, it was this idea. We've heard it so many times. No one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Do you know the Father? Do you want to know the Father? Because it's like a prescription here, right? Jesus is saying no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him when is the last time you you asked Jesus to reveal the Father to you it's the last time you prayed and that that's the thing about the scriptures right there's layer and layer layer and layer and there's prayer upon prayer upon prayer it teaches us to pray you know It's basically saying, like, if you want to know the Father, this is a prescription for prayer to know the Father. No one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Jesus, reveal the Father to us. Help us to know the Father.

We live in an age of fatherlessness. We live in an age that is just drowning in the challenges that come when fathers don't act like fathers. And who's going to teach us a way out of that? Who's going to give us a model? Who's going to model a way out of that for us? Of course, it's going to be God the Father. And in order to see that way, in order to to allow him to model fatherhood to us, we have to know him. And Jesus is saying, no one knows the father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Let's pray today. Jesus, reveal the Father to us. Jesus, reveal the Father. Let's not pray. Let's beg. Not as an individual, not just as a church, but as a society, as a culture, as a world. Let's beg Jesus to reveal the Father and to give us a new era of fatherhood. Have a great day and remember, Be bold, Be Catholic.
