Mt 17:1-9
And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain apart. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his garments became white as light. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Eli′jah, talking with him. And Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is well that we are here; if you wish, I will make three booths here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Eli′jah.” He was still speaking, when lo, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces, and were filled with awe. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and have no fear.” And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.
And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Tell no one the vision, until the Son of man is raised from the dead.”

Build Your Light
Is there a word or a phrase or an idea that jumps out at you in this reading today? For me, there are a number, but the first one was that Jesus' face shone with this bright light. Exactly what it says is his face shone like the sun. And I think about, you know, what face do I bring into the world? What face do I bring into each situation, each encounter, each day? And is it a bright light?
Jesus throughout the scriptures calls us to be a light in the world. Is our face a light in the world? Is our face a light people happy to see our face? Are people afraid to see our face? Are people... Does our face make people anxious?
And how do we become this bright light in the world? Through the disciplines, through the spiritual disciplines, through prayer, through meditation, through reflection on the scriptures, through the sacraments, we build up this density, this light that we can take out into the world so that our lives can become an explosion of grace, explosion of encouragement for other people. And then to think about, okay, well, what darkens our face? Obviously sin darkens our face.
What else darkens our face? You know, maybe we're focused on the wrong things, darkens our face. Maybe we get stressed out about things that we don't need to be stressed out about darkens our face. You know, and our children, right, they see our face. Do they see a light? Do they see stress? Do they see anger? Do they see anxiety? So what face are you going to take out in the world today? And if you sit for five or ten extra minutes just with God and just ask him to fill you with his light so that you can take that light out into the world. He will answer that prayer every single time, every single time. And you can feel the light building in you as you ask him, Lord, fill me with your light so that I can take that light out into the world. You will literally feel it building up inside of you.
