Uproot Your Life

Mt 15:1-2, 10-14
Some Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said,
“Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders?
They do not wash their hands when they eat a meal.”
He summoned the crowd and said to them, “Hear and understand.
It is not what enters one’s mouth that defiles the man;
but what comes out of the mouth is what defiles one.”
Then his disciples approached and said to him,
“Do you know that the Pharisees took offense
when they heard what you said?”
He said in reply, “Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted
will be uprooted.
Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind.
If a blind man leads a blind man,
both will fall into a pit.”

Uproot Your Life
Is there a word or a phrase or an idea that jumps out at you today? For me, it's this idea that everything that isn't planted by God will be uprooted. Jesus says, every plant which my Heavenly Father has not planted will be rooted up. So I think about my life. I think about, okay, what are the things in my life that God is planting? And what are the things in my life that he isn't planting? And all of that's going to be uprooted. I think about. I wake up tomorrow morning am I going to work on something that God is calling me to God is planting or am I going to work on something that is selfish because that's uprooted I look back on my life and I see things that weren't planted by God and all that's going to be uprooted So, when you look at your life, you take the landscape of your life, and then we consider this one line: every plant which my Heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted.
How much of your life is being uprooted? And then, as we go out into the future, how can we be sure? How can we focus on pouring our time, our efforts, our love, our energy, our enthusiasm into the things that God wants to plant in our life and in the world. What was your word? What was your phrase? What was the idea the Holy Spirit drew you today? Take it out into the world with you.
Reflect on it at different times in your day. Maybe you're at a traffic light or you're... Standing in line of the grocery store, or you're sitting waiting to see the doctor. Take these moments and reflect on the word, the phrase, the idea that God drew your attention to in today's gospel. This is the way the gospel begins to take a firm hold of our heart and to be deeply rooted into our lives. Have a great day. Remember, don't just just be yourself. Be the very best version of yourself. All that God created you to be.
