Mt 16:13-20
Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesare′a Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do men say that the Son of man is?” And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Eli′jah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Then he strictly charged the disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ.

So it's interesting, you know, you've got this dynamic at the beginning: Jesus asking these questions like, well, who do people say that I am, who do people say that the Son of Man is. Who do you say that I am?
And it's fascinating because it all drives towards the identity of Jesus. And of course, Jesus has been trying to get him to work that out for a while. And then Peter has this moment of clarity, this moment of grace. He says, you are the Christ, the Son of the living God. What's interesting, and this is what got my attention today, is what Jesus then says to Peter. You, Simon Barjonah, for flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but my Father in heaven.
Okay. Why is that the thing that got my attention today? Because I'd like some of that. I'd like some of that. If flesh and blood didn't deliver this knowing, this wisdom, this clarity to Peter came directly from the Father, I'd like some of that. Of course, there's no way to go out and just say, okay, I'll have some of that. But for us to go deeper into the spiritual life and to ask for it and to pray for it and to to guide us, to lead us, to direct us, to inspire us, to encourage us, to challenge us to go to deeper places and higher places so that we can connect with Him in more profound ways today than we did yesterday.
