Mt 21:28-32
“What do you think? A man had two sons; and he went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’ And he answered, ‘I will not’; but afterward he repented and went. And he went to the second and said the same; and he answered, ‘I go, sir,’ but did not go. Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, the tax collectors and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the harlots believed him; and even when you saw it, you did not afterward repent and believe him.

Learn from the Righteous
Some days, it's a word. Some days, it's a phrase. Today, for me, it's an idea that strikes me that the Holy Spirit uses to awaken my heart a little more. It's this idea that John came in the way of righteousness, and you didn't believe him. But the tax collectors and the whores, they believed him, but you didn't believe him. John came in the way of righteousness. Who in your life do you know who is most striving to walk in the way of righteousness? Who do you know in your life who's most striving to walk in the way of righteousness, and how do you treat that person? What is your attitude towards her, or what is the way you treat him, this person, these people who are most striving to walk in the way of righteousness? Do you want to be around them? Do you learn from them? Do they inspire you?
And do you have another level of awareness? Do you have another level of awareness? Because this is what I experience in my hardened, broken heart sometimes. There are books on my bookshelf. Some days I don't want to pick them up. I may like walking past my bookshelf. In my study at home where I write, I have some books, about 100 books, and then I have all my other books elsewhere. But there's these 100 books that have had a profound influence on my life that I read over and over again. But some days I'll be walking past that bookshelf, and I'll see one of those books, and I'll be like, "No, I don't want to read that book today," because I know in my heart that that book is going to call me to something today that I don't want to be called to today. I might want to be called to it tomorrow, but today, right now, for whatever reason, no, don't want to read that book.
I think we have people in our lives like that as well. "I don't want to be around that person right now because the person's going to remind me of—I need to get realigned in this, or that person's going to challenge me, and I don't want to be challenged because I'm in a lazy mood," whatever it is. Books and people. I'm sure it's other things as well. But John came in the way of righteousness. Who in your life is striving for that righteousness, and how do you treat them? What is your attitude towards them? How do you treat them? And is it different on different days? Have a great day. Remember, Be Bold, Be Catholic. Let's go out in the world and find those people who are walking in the way of righteousness, and let's become one of them.
