Gospel

Jn 13:16-20

Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. I am not speaking of you all; I know whom I have chosen; it is that the scripture may be fulfilled, ‘He who ate my bread has lifted his heel against me.’ I tell you this now, before it takes place, that when it does take place you may believe that I am he. Truly, truly, I say to you, he who receives any one whom I send receives me; and he who receives me receives him who sent me.”

It’s time to take back your life.

It’s time to slow down to the speed of joy.

All revolutions have a moment when they begin. This is your moment.

The Hospitality Challenge

What is it that jumps out at you today? These last couple of lines are an extraordinary invitation to hospitality. Hospitality has always been a very important part of Christianity. Concept of they will know we're Christian by our love naturally extends into hospitality. This invitation or challenge or encouragement from Jesus today, "Truly, truly I say to you, he who receives anyone whom I send receives me." If you think about how we welcome people into our lives, how we welcome people into our homes. How welcome do they feel? I remember when I was first traveling back in the early '90s, mid '90s, I go from city to city every day, 250 days a year.

And the hospitality was so welcoming. And sometimes I stayed with families. Sometimes I stayed in a hotel, had meals with families, meals with parish groups. But people were so hospitable, so generous to anything that I needed while I was in this city. And that lives with me today. That lives with me in so many ways that I have this incredible gratitude for people who have been involved at different points along the way, have been generous to the Dynamic Catholic mission, with their time, talent, and treasure. And it lives in me also in thinking about how we welcome a guest for dinner in our home, or how we welcome a guest who comes to visit Dynamic Catholic, or how we welcome a guest, if someone comes to stay with us in our home. And teaching children how to be generous with their hospitality is essential to the Christian journey. And so today, let us go into the world and see who is Jesus sending to us, and ask ourselves, "Are we receiving them as we would receive Jesus?" Have a great day. And remember, don't just be yourself, be the-very-best-version-of-yourself, all that God created you to be.
