I am a pilgrim of mercy.
I love Mondays because each Monday is a new beginning, a fresh start. God gives us Mondays, New Year's Day, birthdays, and every single one represents a new blessing and a new beginning. New beginnings are a beautiful gift. It's just another day, some people say. They are right and they are wrong. We get to decide. If you want it to be just another random day, that's your choice. If you want it to be the first day of something new and beautiful, that's your choice too. One of the things I love about our faith is that our God is a God of second chances, fresh starts, and new beginnings. This consecration to divine mercy is a new beginning. New beginnings and second chances are full of hope and possibilities. Christianity is about new beginnings. Our God is a God of second, third, fourth, fifth, and 77th chances. God loves new beginnings. Jesus is the ultimate new beginning. Divine mercy is the ultimate second chance. Jesus invites us to leave behind the old and step into the new. This is not merely a call to change our circumstances, but to transform our hearts, our minds, and our souls. What is Jesus inviting you to leave behind? Too often, we allow the weight of our past mistakes to prevent us from living the life God is calling us to live today.
It's so easy to get trapped in repetitive thought cycles that focus on our past mistakes and our guilt and our shame and regret that come from those past mistakes. These thought patterns are exhausting. Divine mercy wants to liberate you from your obsessive thoughts about your past. You are not the worst thing you have ever done, and divine mercy is greater than every poor choice you have ever made. Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. These were Jesus' words. These were not empty words. They're a declaration of His compassion and mercy. I have come that they may have life and have it to the fullest. These were Jesus' words. These were not empty words. They are a testament to His power to make all things new.
Are you ready for a new beginning? Throughout his life, Jesus was constantly offering people second chances and new beginnings. Tax collectors, adulterers, lepers, prostitutes, the possessed, the disciples, and the thief on the cross. Jesus' message was clear. Everyone deserves a new beginning. Peter is a perfect example. One of Jesus' first disciples, Peter loved Jesus deeply. But in Jesus' darkest hour, Peter denied him three times. Imagine the shame and self-loathing Peter must have felt. And yet, after his resurrection, Jesus didn't cast Peter aside. He drew him nearer than ever. He knew Peter loved him and ultimately would appoint Peter as the first Pope. Jesus was telling Peter that his past mistakes did not define his future. And Jesus is telling you the same thing today. Your past mistakes don't define your future. He will not allow your past mistakes to define your future. This is central to Christianity, the belief that we are not defined by our worst moments. Jesus gives us the grace to start again. But to embrace our new beginning, we need to release our grip on the things that no longer serve us. Regret, bitterness, pride, fear and doubt. But letting go isn't easy. It requires trust. Trust in God's plan and trust in His timing. Proverbs encourages us, trust in the Lord with all your heart. When we place our trust in God, we can step into the unknown with confidence, knowing that He is with us every step of the way. This trust is at the heart of Divine Mercy. Allow me to share two practical examples to nurture and cultivate trust within your soul. The first is to pray the short prayer. Jesus, I trust in you. Pray this short prayer over and over again as we make our pilgrimage together. When you're uncertain or unafraid, pray, Jesus, I trust in you. When you're hopeful about your new beginning, pray, Jesus, I trust in you. When you feel overwhelmed and life seems chaotic, pray, Jesus, I trust in you. Become trustworthy is the second practical way to grow in trust. We struggle to trust God because we aren't completely trustworthy ourselves. Truth brings order to our lives. Truth is the foundation of integrity. Truth is a path to growth. Tell the truth and seek the truth. Your ability to trust in God will expand the more trustworthy you become yourself. Now, what's holding you back from your new beginning? What burden do you need to lay at the foot of the cross?
Jesus is waiting with open arms, ready to walk with you into a future filled with hope and promise. The question is not whether he can transform your life, but whether you will let him. Say yes to him today, and he will turn the page to a new chapter in your life. It is never too late for a fresh start. Ask, and it will be given to you. Search, and you will find, knock, and the door will be opened to you. We read in the Gospel of Matthew. Ask God to grant you a new beginning today. Trust, surrender, believe, receive. Did you know there are 57 amazing moments of engagement during the Mass? Did you know each and every one of them connects with your daily life and teaches us something about the genius of Catholicism? Did you know this year we will finish our extraordinary program about the mass so that everyone can learn about these 57 moments of engagement in the Mass? If you are a Dynamic Catholic Ambassador, thank you. And this is what we are spending your money on this year. Eternal God.
In whom mercy is endless.
And the treasury of compassion inexhaustible.
Look kindly upon us.
And increase your mercy in us.
That in difficult moments.
We might not despair.
Nor become despondent.
But with great confidence.
Submit ourselves to your holy will.
Which is love and mercy itself.
Amen.
Amen.
Amen.
See you tomorrow.
Thank you, Ambassadors.
You are changing the world. Have a great day. Have a great day.
Have a great day!
