Luke 10:1-12, 17-20

At that time, the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them ahead of him in pairs to every town and place he intended to visit. He told them that the harvest was abundant but the laborers were few, and that they should ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest. He instructed them to go on their way, saying he was sending them like lambs among wolves. They were to carry no money bag, no sack, and no sandals, and were not to greet anyone along the way.

When they entered a house, they were to say, “Peace to this household.” If a peaceful person lived there, their peace would rest on him; if not, it would return to them. They were to stay in the same house, eating and drinking what was offered, for the laborer deserves his payment. They were not to move from one house to another. In whatever town they were welcomed, they were to eat what was set before them, cure the sick, and say, “The kingdom of God is at hand for you.” If they entered a town and were not received, they were to go into the streets and say, “The dust of your town that clings to our feet, even that we shake off against you.” Still, they were to know that the kingdom of God was at hand. Jesus said it would be more tolerable for Sodom on that day than for that town.

The seventy-two returned rejoicing and said that even the demons were subject to them because of his name. Jesus told them he had observed Satan fall like lightning from the sky and that he had given them the power to tread upon serpents, scorpions, and the full force of the enemy, and that nothing would harm them. However, he told them not to rejoice because the spirits were subject to them, but to rejoice because their names were written in heaven.
