Welcome back to Best Advent Ever. We're talking about slowing down to the speed of joy. We're talking about the wisdom of enough. We're talking about contentment. We're talking about the genius of the Sabbath. Today, we talk a little bit about time. Time is the great clarifier. It puts emotions, opinions, and situations into perspective. It reveals our true values and priorities. It reveals outcomes and consequences. Time reveals the layers of a relationship or situation until we see them for what they are. Time is a wise teacher who challenges us to grow and prepares us for the future. Now let's reflect on some of the things people say and what they really mean.
"I don't have enough time." People say it all the time. You don't have enough time for what? Are you saying God didn't give you enough time? "I can't keep up." People say that all the time. You can't keep up with what? You can't keep up with your own lives? If our lives are moving so fast that we cannot keep up, what is that telling us? Our approach must be fundamentally flawed. "There aren't enough hours in the day." How often do we hear that? Aren't enough hours in the day for what? If there aren't enough hours in the day to get everything done, the logical question would seem to be, what are you attempting to do that you should not be doing?
"There's just too much on my plate," we hear people say. Is God expecting you to do more than is reasonable? Has God put an impossible amount on your schedule? Or have you put things on your plate that God never intended for you? "I'm always behind schedule," we hear people say. What is that telling you? Always? How long has this been going on? When will you get the message? If you are always behind schedule, you're like one of those dogs chasing a car. But the car is your life. "I wish I had more hours in the day," we hear people say. Really? You would like to change God's design of the universe.
Our insanity is matched by our arrogance. Or could it be that our insanity is the result of our arrogance? "There are only 24 hours in a day," we hear people say. Only. The design is perfect. The problem is user error. And of course, we are the users. You don't need more time. Cast that deception aside. If you needed more time, God would have given you more time. More time isn't the answer. The answer is careful selection, prayerful discernment, a grateful heart, and acknowledgement of the reality of our finitude. Stop wrestling with reality. Reality always wins.
24 hours a day is enough time. There's so many days when I'm getting ready for bed, and I'm like, "I didn't get that done, and I didn't get that done." And what Slowing Down to the Speed of Joy taught me was that, okay, if I didn't get those things done, was I supposed to do those things? Were they the will of God? And if those things were the will of God, then what did I spend my day doing that wasn't the will of God? Slowing Down to the Speed of Joy has taught me to look back on my day through the lens of time and ask myself, "Okay, what periods of time was I not doing the will of God?" or "What periods of time was that I'm not trying to do the will of God, and so I'm just sort of lost and blundering and whatever?" It's amazing how much time we waste. It's amazing how much time we spend doing things other than the things that God wants us to do, and of course, they are the things that will cause our souls to erupt with joy. This has been a great adventure together. I hope you will share the book with everyone you know. We'd like to give you six free copies. Click the button below and request your six copies today.
