Gospel
Lk 8:1-3
Soon afterward he went on through cities and villages, preaching and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with him, and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Mag´dalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, and Jo-an´na, the wife of Chu´za, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for them out of their means.

Welcome back to Radical and Relevant where each day we're exploring the genius of Jesus, His life, His teachings, in the Gospels, and looking for a way to anchor our day in the Word of God. Today's reading is short. These short readings we've got to focus in, otherwise they're over before we know it. Comes from the Gospel of Luke 8:1-3. "Soon afterward, Jesus went on through cities and villages, preaching and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with him, and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities. Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out. And Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others who provided for them out of their means."
What jumps out at you today? Very often, we read these scriptures and we are getting a micro look at one incident, not even a day in Jesus' life, but one incident in one day in Jesus' life. Maybe Jesus talks to somebody or heals somebody or teaches. But what we get here in today's reading is more of a macro view and what the writer of the Gospel is trying to tell us is that, "Okay, yes, there were these incidences here and here and here and here, and I told you specifically about those." But what he's trying to convey is that this was happening everywhere, that Jesus was going through all the towns and all the villages, and that he was healing people and teaching people and conveying the idea that these miracles, these incredible things that Jesus was doing, were not just isolated incidences, but that he was going far and wide, bringing the good news of the kingdom of God.
We live in a culture that is desperately in need of good news. We live in a culture that is desperately in need of the kingdom of God. We pray in the Our Father, "On earth as it is in heaven." So if his will is going to be done on earth as it is in heaven, let's start with ourselves. Let's start with today. Let's go out looking to do the will of God on earth, in our own lives, today, as it is in heaven. Have a great day and remember, Be Bold, Be Catholic.
