Lk 13:10-17
Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. And there was a woman who had had a spirit of infirmity for eighteen years; she was bent over and could not fully straighten herself. And when Jesus saw her, he called her and said to her, “Woman, you are freed from your infirmity.” And he laid his hands upon her, and immediately she was made straight, and she praised God. But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the sabbath, said to the people, “There are six days on which work ought to be done; come on those days and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.” Then the Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the sabbath untie his ox or his ass from the manger, and lead it away to water it? And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?” As he said this, all his adversaries were put to shame; and all the people rejoiced at all the glorious things that were done by him.

Do Some Digging
So what do we got going on here? We got the Sabbath, we got the woman, we've got the disciples, we got the Pharisees, we got the conflict. I think the thing that struck out for me today-- remember each day looking for a word, phrase, or idea. The idea that struck out at me today was that these leaders had an incredibly narrow view of the scriptures, Judaic tradition, God, themselves, and a desperately tragic view of other people. So people weren't people in this sense. They were just you're not doing what you're told to do. And of course, what they're saying today is ludicrous. It's insane. It's like even the village idiot works out, "Guys, you might be wrong on this one." And when I read that, what I think is, "I bet I'm like that sometimes." And I wonder like, "Eh, when am I like that? Am I like that with the team at work? Am I like that with my kids? Am I like that with Maggie? Am I like that with my siblings? Am I like that-- when am I like that?" And it doesn't immediately come to me, which means I got to do some digging. I'm going to need to do some digging. I go to my prayer time today. I'm going to need to do some digging to work out when do I behave like that? Because I'm pretty sure I do or have or will be tempted to.
That's why I love the idea of just picking a word, a phrase, or an idea, and just allowing God to speak to us through it. What was yours today? Allow it to accompany you through your day. Whatever your word, phrase, or idea was today, allow it to accompany you through your day. Have a great day. Remember, do not just be yourself. The world says, "Just be yourself." No. No, no, don't just be yourself. Be the-very-best-version-of-yourself, all that God created you to be.
