Jn 16:5-11
But now I am going to him who sent me; yet none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts. Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convince the world of sin and of righteousness and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in me; of righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.

Examine Your Sorrow
Welcome back to Radical
and Relevant, where we are exploring the genius of Jesus, the genius of the Gospels.
Today's reading is from John chapter 16 verses 5 through 11. "But now I am going to him
who sent me. Yet none of you ask me, 'Where are you going?' But because they have said
these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts. Nevertheless, I tell you the truth.
It is to your advantage that I go away. For if I do not go away, the counselor will not
come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you, and when he comes, he will convince
the world of sin and of righteousness and of judgment, of sin because they do not
believe in me, of righteousness because I go to the Father. And you will see me no more.
Of judgment because the ruler of this world is judged." So we're looking for a word or a
phrase or an idea.
The phrase that jumped out at me is "Sorrow has
filled your heart." Has sorrow filled your heart? And what is it that caused the sorrow
to fill your heart? And have you taken that and placed that on the altar and asked God
to relieve the sorrow, heal the sorrow, give you the strength, grace, courage, wisdom to
deal with the sorrow? Or are you trying to carry that on your own back? Are you trying
to push through that sorrow with your own will? Sorrow has filled your hearts. Sorrow
fills our hearts from time to time. How are we dealing with the sorrow of this life?
Have a great day. Remember, be bold, be Catholic.
