Mt 5: 17-19
“Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Get a Taste of Heaven
Welcome back to Radical
and Relevant. I'm Matthew Kelly. We're exploring the genius of the gospel each day
looking for a word, a phrase, or an idea that the Holy Spirit lets jump out at us and
stirs our heart and our soul, pay special attention to that word, phrase, or idea, so
that we can anchor our day in that word, phrase, and idea, and have a very, very pointed
and practical way to live out the Gospel. Today's reading is from the Gospel of Matthew
5:17-19.
"Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the
prophets. I have come not to abolish them, but to fulfill them. For truly I say to you,
till heaven and earth pass away, not one iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until
all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and
teaches men so shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But he who does them and
teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your
righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and the Pharisees, you will never enter the
kingdom of heaven."
What jumps out at you today? I guess what jumps
out at me today is just the concept of heaven, which, I think, we speak about it too
little. I think we probably think about it too little. And as a result, I think our
lives aren't necessarily oriented towards it enough. Do you want heaven? Do you want
heaven? Do you want to experience heaven? And if so, what are you doing today to allow
God to give you a taste of that experience so that you can align yourself more and more
with Him and His will and His ways so that you can, yes, experience the Kingdom of
Heaven in the next life, but also begin to experience a foretaste of heaven in this
life. Have a great day. Remember, be bold, be Catholic.
