Mt 13:47-53
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net which was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind; when it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into vessels but threw away the bad. So it will be at the close of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous, and throw them into the furnace of fire; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.
Have you understood all this?” They said to him, “Yes.” And he said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old. And when Jesus had finished these parables, he went away from there.

Stay True to Your Call
Welcome back to "Radical
and Relevant," where we're exploring the genius of the teachings of Jesus in the
Gospels, which are as radical today as they were 2,000 years ago. They are as relevant
today as they were 2,000 years ago. Today's reading comes from the Gospel of Matthew,
chapter 13, verses 47 through 53. "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net, which was
thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind. When it was full, men drew it
ashore and sat down, and sorted the good into vessels but threw away the bad. So it will
be at the close of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the
righteous, and throw them into the furnace of fire. There, men will weep and gnash their
teeth. Have you understood all this? They said to him, 'Yes.' And he said to them,
'Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a
householder who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.' And when Jesus
had finished these parables, he went away from there." What jumps out at you today? What
jumps out at you today? The net, the kingdom of heaven. It's like a net just thrown into
the sea, gathered every kind of fish.
Well, our life, we're like
living in the sea, we're with every kind of fish, right? And that can be a challenge
someday. Living amidst all the other people in all different places in their spiritual
journey and asking ourselves, "Okay, how does this make sense? And where is God in all
of this?" But we are amidst people of every kind, and we are called to stay true to our
call and help as many of those of every kind find their way one step closer to God
today. As you go out into the world today, you've got to experience fish of every kind.
They're all children of God. They're all looking for their way.
And
sometimes those who think they are most found are most lost. And sometimes those who
think they are most lost are most found. And that's the kind of paradox that we're
presented with every day in the Gospels. Have a great day, and remember, Be Bold, Be
Catholic.
