Transform Your Anger

4 min

Gospel

Mt 5:20-26

For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

“You have heard that it was said to the men of old, ‘You shall not kill; and whoever kills shall be liable to judgment.’ But I say to you that every one who is angry with his brother shall be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother shall be liable to the council, and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be liable to the hell of fire. So if you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Make friends quickly with your accuser, while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison; truly, I say to you, you will never get out till you have paid the last penny.

It’s time to take back your life.

It’s time to slow down to the speed of joy.

All revolutions have a moment when they begin. This is your moment.

Transform Your Anger

What is it that jumps out at you today? Not a particularly joyful reading. But what's important? A few things. Like Jesus says very clearly, like unless you're better than these people, you're not going to heaven. I think that's important. I think we live in a culture where people say, oh, everyone's going to heaven. God loves everyone.

I could be wrong. That might be true. But that doesn't appear to be what Jesus is saying. It doesn't appear to be what he's saying. And then he talks about anger. And we've all got it, right? We've all got it. It struck me today because I'm pretty angry at one person right now at the moment.

Who are you angry at today? And how are you dealing with that anger? Who's the last person you were angry with? And how did you process that anger? And did you process it well, or did you just sort of tuck it away and avoid it? Pretend it wasn't there. Maybe it's an anger that needs to be brought back out and processed correctly. And maybe you need to speak to the person about it. Maybe you need to speak to God about it. But let's. Look at that anger today and bring it to God and allow him to transform it. It's what he does. He transforms things. Most of all, he transforms people one at a time. He wants to transform you and me. He wants to get to work on that today. So let's let him have a great day. And remember, Be Bold. Be Catholic.
