Holy moments.
Don't let the world steal your wonder.
God will surprise you and delight you every day if you pay attention. But it seems he does his greatest work in the midst of our greatest darkness. It is when our hearts are broken that God does some of his best work. How did the disciples feel? That Good Friday night, defeated and hopeless, lost and confused, swallowed by an all-encompassing darkness. How did they feel on that Saturday? Brokenhearted, perhaps, maybe even deceived and betrayed. Our selfishness has a way of twisting things to make us feel sorry for ourselves. The darkest hour is right before the dawn, and in these darkest hours, God is often preparing to do his greatest work. He certainly was on that Sunday morning.
Let's put ourselves there in Jerusalem on that Sunday morning, the day of the resurrection. Imagine how quickly word spread. Imagine how many versions of the story were circulating. The city would have been filled with emotion like never before: joy, anger, fear, confusion, anxiety, frustration, rage, indifference, hatred, disbelief. What did the Pharisees feel when they first heard? How did the news make Pilate feel? Were the men who tortured and executed Jesus afraid he would come back for revenge? Most people probably went on with their lives indifferently, thinking he was just another man and accepting the story that his followers had stolen his body. It must have been some Sunday morning. The city would have been overwhelmed with gossip. Emotion would have been running high. And there probably wasn't a single soul thinking this is the main event in human history, but it was. Jesus rose from the dead. The miracle of miracles, the main event in human history. On that day, there were, no doubt, many people who ignored it and many others who doubted it, rejected it, or were skeptical or cynical. These people have existed in every age and exist today, but you see them wandering through their lives confused. It is simply impossible to make sense of life and history without acknowledging the resurrection. But with it, with the resurrection, everything changes.
You and I are walking through the streets of Jerusalem. Imagine it: listening to people talk about it on that Sunday morning. Do we believe? Do we have doubts? Or are we too busy attending to the urgent matters of our own lives to even care? We keep walking and decide to visit the tomb. The place is crowded, and there are guards trying to keep people away. People are arguing, whispering, staring. But we stand there for a few quiet moments and wonder what does all this mean? This is not just another miracle. This is the miracle that gives meaning to every other miracle. Lazarus was raised, but he would die again. The blind were healed, but they would grow old and frail. The hungry were fed, but they would hunger again.
The resurrection is different. This is the defeat of death itself. This is God declaring that love is stronger than hatred. That truth is stronger than lies. Life is stronger than death. The resurrection is the miracle of miracles. Without it, nothing else matters. With it, everything does. Saint Paul puts it bluntly. If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless, and so is your faith. Wow. Every healing, every wonder, every sign, every miracle, every grace, and all the teachings of Jesus rise or fall on the moment. If the tomb is not empty, then ultimately, nothing else matters. Every miracle would be only a kind of a magic trick with no ultimate purpose. But if the tomb is empty, then everything changes.
Let me explain. St. Paul goes on to say something completely mind-blowing. He says, "The same Spirit of God who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you." Do you understand what that means? The power that raised Jesus from the dead is within you. The power that healed the sick, that turned water into wine, that split the Red Sea, that power lives within you.
So let me ask you, what do you need today? God wants to resurrect you in some specific way. What areas of your life need resurrection right now? Your marriage, your work, your finances, your faith, your family, your mind, your heart, your wounds, a particular friendship? What part of your life do you need Jesus to renew like never before?
The miracle of the resurrection confronts us. It demands a response. If Christ is risen, then we cannot remain unchanged. If Christ is risen, then despair is no longer reasonable. If Christ is risen, then even death doesn't get the final word. It's time to live in the resurrected Lord. When we do, we're fully alive. We experience joy that does not depend on circumstances, detachment from the passing troubles of this world, courage in the face of suffering, and confidence that, in the end, truth and goodness will always prevail. Jesus, unleash the power of your resurrection. Resurrect the area of my life that most needs it today.
Do you believe in miracles? Thirty-three days ago, you began a journey that has walked you through some of the greatest wonders in salvation history. But today is your moment. Allow the God of miracles to fill your life with love, compassion, wonders, healing, and boundless graces. Find new horizons of possibility. Begin to dream again, and never go a day without asking God what His dream is for you. Ask for healing. Ask for transformation. Go to the God of the resurrection boldly and ask for what you need. Don't be afraid to ask, and don't be afraid of what he might ask of you in return. It's time for you to give yourself over entirely to the God of all miracles, the God of all wonders, the God of all grace, the God of the resurrection. Don't hold anything back.
Most Holy Trinity, one God in three divine persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, mystery of perfect love, source of all life, author of every miracle, wonder beyond understanding and grace without limit, I consecrate myself to You today without reservation. I come before You as I am, created by the Father, redeemed by the Son, and sustained by the Holy Spirit. I bring You my faith and my doubt, my strengths and my weaknesses, my dreams, and my fears. I place my whole life before You, past, present, and future. And I offer it all to You with complete trust. Most Holy Trinity, I hold nothing back. I surrender completely and absolutely to Your perfect love.
Heal what is wounded in me. Take the blindness from my eyes, the deafness from my ears, the darkness from my mind, and the hardness from my heart. Fill me with the grace, wisdom, and courage to see Your miracles unfolding all around me and embrace the amazing possibilities You have planned for my life. Most Holy Trinity, You are never distant or indifferent. You dwell within me. Invite me more deeply into Your life of love and communion. Remind me each day of these essential truths. You do not require my strength. You ask for my surrender. You do not need my action. You desire my attention. You do not rely on my talent. You invite my trust.
To work Your wonders in and through me, You do not require any extraordinary abilities, but only my radical availability. Most Holy Trinity, I make myself 100% available to you now. Pour out Your grace and flood my soul with hope. Bless me with faith that perseveres, hope that endures, and love that gives itself away. Transform my ordinary days into a pilgrimage of awareness and joy. Send me into the world as an instrument of Your love and a channel of Your grace so that I may become a living sign of Your presence in the world. Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, I consecrate myself to You today without reservation. I am Yours totally, freely, and forever. Mary, Mother of God, and our mother, you trusted God without knowing the outcome. Pray for me as I consecrate my life. Lead me to surrender with humility, to listen with attentiveness, to say yes with courage, even when the path is unclear. Teach me to live as a child of the Father, to love as your son loves, and to walk each day led by the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Don't let the world steal your wonder.
See you tomorrow.
See you tomorrow.
Have a great day.

Okay, you come over here? You're not in this one? Oh, okay.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Oh, amen.
All right, now you're going to do all of that the same, except then you're all going to do receive.

Okay. Can you do a big smile?
He's like, "This might be a smile."
Yes. Hello.
Let's take that puppy back outside.
