Welcome back to Best Land Ever, and our journey to surrender, our journey to explore what does it mean to surrender our lives to God completely? And how do we live out that surrender in real terms, in practical terms, every day of our lives? Because sometimes surrendering to God can feel like the concept is up here, right? And we need to bring it down and place it in our everyday lives. We need to work out, okay, how do I live that at work? How do I live that in my marriage? How do I live that in my friendships? How do I live that? Yes, in my spirituality? How do I live that in every area of my life? Today we're going to talk about the third maxim. The third maxim is I find myself surrendering my anxieties to God, trusting in His wisdom and guidance. I find myself surrendering my anxieties to God. It's so easy to get anxious about things, right? When we get anxious about things, what's happening? We're going out of the present moment. We're trying to create some future reality. Or we're going out of the present moment and encountering fear of some outcome in the future. So surrendering our anxieties, in order to surrender our anxieties, we have to surrender outcomes, right? We have to trust that the outcomes. God is working towards good outcomes for us, and that God will use the outcomes to help us change and grow and develop and become more perfectly who he created us to be. The opening lines of this chapter read, anxieties arise when our need to control collides with life's uncertainties. Surrender teaches us to release our anxieties. We think we know how things should be. And when they aren't as we think they should be, we experience anxiety. Surrender teaches us to let go of how we think things should be. It's real, right? It doesn't get more real than that. It doesn't get more practical than that. We encounter that in almost every situation, right? We think we know how things should be. And when things are that way, we start to get anxious. Our control mechanism kicks in. Okay. It shouldn't be this way. That person needs to do this, and that person needs to do that. And I'm going to do this. And then it will be as it should be. We think we know how things should be. And we don't. We don't. We have blind spots. We have biases. We have desires. We have ambitions. All of these things prevent us from seeing what it is that God is trying to do in our lives, in our relationships, in our world. And so the second maxim, I find myself surrendering my anxieties to God, trusting in His wisdom and guidance. And so as you go about your day today, be mindful, okay? Be mindful. When are you starting to feel anxious? When are you starting to feel like your desire to control kick in? When are these things activating in you? And when that happens, we move to the second part of the maxim, trusting in His wisdom and guidance. When that happens, when you feel getting anxious about how something is or isn't, feel trying to control something, take a moment. Let's take a breath. Let's turn to God and ask Him for His wisdom and His guidance. It's amazing, right, how little we ask God to share His wisdom and His guidance with us. It's astounding how little we consult the Holy Spirit and say, "Holy Spirit, show me, guide me in this. Where should I be going? What should I be doing? What's the next step? What is the thing that you want me to do in this situation?" And so we're not just going to lay down our anxieties and that be that. Something has to come in and nudge them out. Something better has to come in and nudge them out. And that thing that is better is trusting in God's wisdom and guidance.
I find myself surrendering my anxieties to God, trusting in His wisdom and guidance. It's a beautiful thing when you read it, when you reflect upon it. This idea of, "I find myself surrendering my anxieties to God," it's just a beautiful concept. And so just to think about that, just to reflect on that, just to meditate on that, what's going to happen? We are going to start to live that out in our lives. We are going to find ourselves surrendering our anxieties to God if we reflect upon that. We pray about that. And then trusting in His wisdom and guidance. So let's go out in the world today. And as things happen, as we encounter people, let's get curious about God. Let's get curious about God, His plans for our lives. Let's get curious about God and His plans for our day. Let's get curious about God and what His will is in each situation. Let's get curious about God and what His dream is in each interaction we have with people today. If you haven't already taken the assessment, take the assessment.
