This video is brought to you by the Dynamic Catholic Ambassadors Club. You're awesome. Your greatest ability is your availability.
Okay. And then go.
The grace of God is transformative. Merciful. Available.
Mysterious.
You are a miracle.
Before there were saints, before miracles of healing and prophecy, before water was turned into wine or the dead were raised, there was a miracle so vast, so overwhelming, so all-encompassing that we rarely stop to notice it. And what was that miracle? Creation. We wake up immersed in it every morning. We live our entire lives surrounded by it, and yet familiarity has dulled our sense of wonder. The opening words of Scripture are among the most profound ever written. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. With that single sentence, the Bible answers a question that has needled humanity across every culture and century. Why is there something rather than nothing?
Nothing comes from nothing. That simple truth is at the heart of what philosophers call the cosmological argument. Everything that begins to exist has a cause. The universe began to exist. Therefore, the universe has a cause that is beyond itself. Science confirms what Scripture proclaimed thousands of years ago. The universe is not eternal. It had a beginning. In other words, the cause of the universe must be timeless, spaceless, immaterial, powerful beyond comprehension, and intelligent. That all sounds suspiciously like God. The Big Bang was not an explosion in space. It was an expansion of space itself. Before it, there was no before. There was no time ticking away. And then suddenly, everything that exists came into being with astonishing precision and order.
But the miracle of creation goes even deeper than all of that. Physicists have discovered that the universe is governed by a set of physical constants, numbers that determine how gravity works, how atoms are formed, how stars burn, and how life is even possible. If these constants were altered by even a fraction, one part in trillions, the universe would be lifeless. No stars, no chemistry, no planets, no animals, no people, no you and me. This is known as the fine-tuning of the universe. If gravity was slightly stronger, stars would burn too fast and collapse. If it was slightly weaker, stars would never form. If the ratio of electrons to protons were different, atoms could not exist. If the expansion rate of the universe were altered even so slightly, the universe would either collapse in on itself or fly apart too quickly for galaxies to form. The universe is balanced on a razor's edge, and it is balanced in a way that allows intelligent life to emerge chance does not explain this. Randomness does not account for precision. This finely tuned universe points to something beyond the universe, an intelligent mind with intention, foresight, and care. Creation reveals not only power, but intelligence. Not only intelligence, but care and concern. The universe is not merely functional, it is hospitable. Hospitable. And all this tells us something essential about God. God is not a distant architect who built a universe and abandoned it. Creation reveals a God who delights in order, who values harmony, who cares about details most of us would never notice. A God who works patiently, methodically, and purposefully. Scripture describes creation unfolding in stages, not as a chaotic burst, but as a deliberate act. Light separated from darkness, land from sea, plants, animals, and finally, humanity. With great intentionality, God brought order and life out of chaos, and God has not stopped creating. Creation did not end on the seventh day. God rested not because he was tired, but because he delighted in what he had made, and he still delights.
GK Chesterton, the great apologist of the early 20th century, once compared God's infinite capacity for wonder to a child playing a game. Like a child will say over and over, "Do it again," Chesterton wrote, "It is possible that God says every morning, do it again to the sun, and every evening, do it again to the moon." Creation is not simply something God did long ago. It is something God is doing now, at every moment. The universe exists because God wills it to exist. If God were to withdraw His sustaining presence for even an instant, everything would vanish. Creation is an ongoing miracle. We need to train our spiritual senses to appreciate that. Every sunrise is a reminder that God is still at work, and within that vast, ordered, carefully sustained creation, God chose to create human beings in a unique way. Scripture tells us that we are made in His image and likeness. We are capable of knowing, loving, and freely responding to Him. Your existence is not necessary. The universe could exist without you, but it does not.
And that tells us something profound. God wanted you here. God delights in you. If you really believed that creation itself is a miracle, how would it change the way you live? Would you wake up differently in the morning? How would you wake up differently every morning? Would you watch more sunsets? Would you take more walks in nature to remind yourself that all of this is an incredible gift? How would it change the way you see yourself? How would it change the way you treat other people? Creation points beyond itself. It draws our attention upward and outward. It reminds us that we did not create ourselves and we do not sustain ourselves. In a world obsessed with control, creation teaches us dependence. When we lose our sense of wonder at creation, we lose sight of God. And when we lose sight of God, everything else begins to feel heavier, more fragile, more uncertain. Creation is the first miracle. It is the miracle that makes every other miracle possible. Isn't it time to collaborate with God, to bring the order, harmony, and intentionality of creation to your daily life?
Trust, surrender.
Believe.
Receive.
Don't let the world steal your wonder.
So what is the lesson of the day? Creation is a miracle, and you are part of it. God didn't just create the universe and walk away. He is actively sustaining every moment of your life. When you feel insignificant or overwhelmed or lost, return to this truth. You exist because God wanted you to exist. Let that reality ground you, steady you, and awaken gratitude in your heart. And today's virtue is wonder. Wonder is the virtue that keeps the heart awake. It allows us to see reality not as dull or inevitable, but as a glorious gift. Wonder steps beyond cynicism and restores humility. Ask God for the grace to recover your sense of wonder. I want to invite you today to become a member of Dynamic Catholics Ambassador Club.
